Gillam Family Genealogy Forum

Geraldine, I would be interested in exchanging information with you about the family of Thomas and Catherine (nee Richards) Gillam of Riga, Michigan. Thomas was my great-grandfather, and Frank, his youngest son, was my grand-father. I have done quite a bit of study on the family and have visited the cemetery in Riga to take photographs of a number of the family tombstones. Catherine bore twelve children, seven of whom survived to 1900. The three you mention are the three youngest surviving children. There are others older. You mention the connection to the Behm family. Louisa Catherine (Kate) married Frederick Behm. I have quite a bit of information on that branch of the family, too.
I was not aware of the connection to the Jonas Richards family until I became aware of your post. However, I am quite sure now that Jonas Richards was probably a brother to Catherine Richards. My grandfather, youngest son of Catherine, was named Frank Jonas Gillam. Also, when Jonas first came to the U.S. from Canada in 1865, he went to Genoa in Ottawa County, OH. That is the same place where Thomas and Catherine first went when they moved to the States from Canada. They were there a few months before moving to Riga, Michigan, where they spent the rest of their lives.
I am very eager to find out more about Jonas Richards.
