Hello David and Martha,
I'm trying to delve into this a bit further and get the exact relationships down. So what we appear to have is that John Gillam married Nancy Everett in Palmyra, NY (about 8 miles from Farmington). Quaker records show that in 1817 Nancy Gillam (was Everett) was disowned from the society in Farmington for marrying outside the society. The same day, our GGGrandfather Benjamin Jr. (Nancy's brother) was also disowned for the same reason. So we know at least that John and Nancy's children are another branch of cousins. But David's later post says that John married Mary Everett, and the 1850 census shows his wife as being Mary. Was this a second name for Nancy, or another sister? It happens that there is another sister named Mary(an) that is listed in the Farmington Monthly Meeting minutes, but it is quite impossible to tell if Nancy and Mary(an) are one and the same. It wouldn't be too unusual to have a nickname of Nancy, though I can't say for sure.
It is my assumption that Samuel Gillam is the son of John and Nancy, and that Lucina Gillam is the daughter of Benjamin (Jr.) and Margaret Everett, in other words our great grandfather's (William's) sister. If anyone has in their records the family history of John Gillam of Ingham County, MI and contact with any of his descendants, perhaps we could determine whether Benjamin's wife Margaret was John's sister (as I suspect).
Thanks for all the information!
Nathan
