Origin of Gill name, please?

This may help. My Grandfather was born in the Isle of Man, but that doesn't answer your question. I know the least about the Gill's. His name was Earl Anson Gill. The name, as you may already know, means servant, originally servant of God. And then I also read that a Gill was someone who lives on the edge of a field, but I am not certain, or maybe it's one who lives in a small valley or ravine. Please correct me if I'm wrong. My grandfather was living in or near a big state forest in NE PA. This is great fun. Caitlin (nee Gill)
