Hi Lewie --
I'd like to add the GILL Rev War notes on 'some' of the above men as well to clarify.
The microfilm is probably available at most libraries, I didn't write the number down, but the film is re: the pension claims in alphabetical order.I also did the GILES, GILS, but for now will just add the S.C. GILL to your specific list.
James GILL R4023 had the "best" clues for me.
So I'll add his abstract 1st.
In 1832 in GREENE CO., AL. aged 72 yrs. He served as a private under Capt. Walker in S.C.
1776 or 1777 entered Service in Chester Dist. S.C.- marched to Edgefield District, Forks of Broad & ?? -- and to Saluda into the Dutch Settlement at Dutch Fork. They raided this settlement for supplies the Dutch
purportedly kept for the British and Tories. They marched onto Orangeburgh.
He stated his two (2) brothers, Thomas and George GILL, Capt. Hardridge FROST and James GILL and Archilbald GILL (he stated they were his "cousins") on this expedition under General ANDERSON whose command was at Orangeburgh.
He states he knows his birth from a Family Bible. He was born 14 April 1760 in N.J. That age 6he left N.J. for Chester Dist. S.C. with his father and family.
After the war, he left Chester Dist. S.C. in 1811 for TN. "Davidson Co."In 1818 he left Davidson Co., TN. for Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama.1823 From Tuscaloosa AL he went to Greene Co., AL where he has since lived.
He signed his affadavit for pension as James GILL.Note that he died 14 Apr 1842 in Greene Co., AL.
Martha H. STEBBINS one of 6 children of James and Mary Ann (FOX) GILL applied for 1/6 of his pension in 1859.
She applied 14 Mar. 1859 from Probate Ct. in MS.Martha H. STEBBINS, aged 54.Her statements related that her parents, Mary Ann FOX and James GILL married in S.C. The children of Mary Ann and James GILL were:
besides Martha, George Gill age 42 in Davidson Co., TN (as of 1860), Nathan GILL age 48 in Hempstead Co, Ark., John P. GILL age 54 in Fort Bexar Co., State of Texas**(see the Handbook of Texas Online for more about him and his brother, Robert J. GILL)**
Robert J. GILL age 52 in George Co., State of Texas.Elizabeth P.(Gill), age 49, wife of Robert H. Dennis, Winston Co., MS. Susannah (Gill) CHERRY b. 6 July 1812 d. 1845
left 1 children (Drinetta? 18 yrs. & J. G. CHERRY aged 11 yrs) in Monroe Co., MS - Husband J. B. CHERRY.

Robert GILL R4024 Born Pa. Service in S.C. has "better clues" and is one I believe you have referenced to.
Robert Gill, from LOGAN Co., state of KY.
Dec. 1833, "I was born in PA....1764 " known from my father's Bible.Leaving PA. at early age for Chester Co., S.C.
1781 he was drafted in Chester Co., S.C. - served 3 months in the S.C. Militia under Innes RAMSEY, John ADAIR - fought in Orangesburgh, against Tories. Was in Charleston. Dishcarged at Orangesburgh.
1782 (*early) was at John MILLS house in Chester Co., to the Sandy River.
He signed ROBERT GILL.
From the State of ALABAMA , Greene Co.,1833, James GILL (signed his name) RE: his brother, Robert GILL, knew his brother to have enlisted under Capt John MILLS of Chester Co., S.C......Oct. 1833.
John Houston has a note in Robert GILL's file as:"Mr. Gill's brother, Thomas, one of the first settlers of this county and a Capt. in the Rev. War.He drew a handsome pension until his death 5 years ago.I have been acquainted with Mr. Robert GILL for some time...signed John Houston. This was from Ill. *I need to check my film again (sorry). But Thomas and Robert GILL both eventually died in ILL.
Robert GILL died 1841 in Il. Thomas died late 1830s..see above or a D.A.R. file.
