I have run across a theory that because the name was McGillekehr we may be related to the Kerr family. I didn't think anything of it until I was reading a book on the clans their tartans and family mottos. I now think there may be something in it. I base this on the Kerr family motto "Late but in earnest" This describes my branch of the Gilkeys perfectly. We are descended from James of Gorham.
