Special Orders]War Department
No. 295]Adjutant General's Office
Washington, September 6th, 1864
(Extract)
5. Private Philip P. Gilham, Company "H", 3d Cavalry, Missouri Volunteers, now with that regiment, will be discharged the service of the United States, upon the receipt of this Order at the place where he may be serving.
By order of the Secretary of War:
E.D. Townsend,
Assistant Adjutant General
Herb I am in the process of cross referencing this material with the Regimental History of the 3rd MO Cavalry in order to clarify as well as possible Phillip Phagan Gillham's short lived military service.
I was told by my uncle that P. P. was shot in the back during the civil war and that this occurred at Jenkin's Ferry. This remains to be seen...so don't add that little bit to your accumulated information until I have finished cross referencing his muster in rolls with the Regt' History.I am also waiting on his pension application to see if there is any additional information.
Barbara
