Hi Helena
This is Valerie Hastie (nee Hymers) your dad Tony's cousin. You live London I live Newcastle. My dad is Norman Hymers your grandmother Mary's brother. I hope this is you!!!!
This is incredible!! If you contact me back I will let you have my email address.
Apparently someone in Ryton has traced back the Gilfillans back to the 17th century and I am waiting to hear from her.(saves me a lot of work!)
I know The Doyles originated from Ireland. Mary Doyle was born in Morpeth (I have her birth certificate) Northumberland (daughter of John & Ann Doyle)
Mary Doyle married Robert Gilfillan born circa 1834 Glasgow, Scotland.I havent found the marriage yet (mixed religion)
All the Gilfillan children Jesse, Duncan, Alexander (my G Grandfather)etc were born in Morpeth, I have traced their baptisms.
The Gilfillans wer mostly iron workers by trade and Alexander was a coalminer.
Ive been to visit some Gilfillan graves in Winlaton at St Pauls and also have a photo of Alexander.
Did you know son of Maria Gilfillan(Harry Glover was an electrician and he did work for Winston Churchill in a bunker during the 2nd World War?)
PS Ask your mum for a copy of the Journal (14&15 June)with details of the Hymers family death (boy killed at rally - Mark Taylor)This was Robson Hymers family.
Best wishes
Valerie
