The Paint Rock to which reference was made is a community in Roane County, Tennessee -- fairly close to the Loudon County line. The Maggie Williamson to which reference was made was my gg grandmother. Maggie's maiden surname was not Giles. Rather, it was England. She was Margaret Ann (Maggie) England, and her husband (my gg grandfather) was Alexander L. (Alex) Williamson. Dicy Ann Smith and her first husband Jacob England were my ggg grandparents. Dicy and Jacob are proven by Maggie's death certificate. Jacob England died 22 May 1863 in the Civil War. He died in the military hospital in Richmond, Virginia. I have only recently discovered that Dicy Ann Smith's second husband was James Calvin (Calvin) Giles. I don't know exactly when Dicy and Calvin were married. Does anybody know for sure? Dicy England applied for Jacob's enlistment bounty of $50 on 5 Jan 1865, so I assume she was still a widow at that point. Also, does anybody have any more details of Dicy's death or burial? I have been totally unable to find out anything about Dicy Ann Smith's parents. Well, it's possible that her mother was a Franklin because she inherited land from a Henry Franklin. Henry never married, and the guess is that Dicy was Henry's niece. Other Englands from Burke County were in Anderson County, Tennessee by 1827, and Jacob was surely related to them. But I have not been able to discover Jacob's parents. Jacob and Dicy were married in 1848 in Burke County, North Carolina. They were enumerated in the 1850 census in Anderson County, Tennessee (Anderson County is adjacent to both Roane County and Loudon County.) They were back in Burke County by 1852 because Jacob voted in Burke County in 1852. They were enumerated in the 1860 census in Burke County, North Carolina. Dicy and Calvin were enumerated in the 1870 census in Monroe County, Tennessee. Dicy's name was listed as Annie (her middle name) in 1870. Monroe County is adjacent to Loudon County. Dicy's daughter Maggie was married in 1874 in Monroe County. Dicy and Calvin were enumerated in the 1880 census in Roane County, Tennessee. Notify Administrator about this message?
