Martha, though I've just contacted you privately, I thought it might help me, you, and others for me to share here some of what my research shows: William M[organ?] Giles's father was James Calvin Giles and his grandfather was William Giles. Both William (the elder) and James, supposedly were farmers near the Roane-Loudon County lines. Judge William M. Giles was born shortly after the Civil War and died in 1953. He and Cora Pickens Ellis had eleven children. William M. Giles's mother may have been Dicy A. Giles, wife of J.C. Giles. Dicy Giles died at age 62 at home in Paint Rock, a town or community I don't know and haven't been able to locate. I currently have no other dates about her. She had nine children, all of whom I believe survived her. Children attending her burial [at Hope Church?]have been listed as including Mrs. J. C. Carroll of James Ferry; Mrs Dicy Patterson of Round Island Mines; Mrs. Maggie Wialliamson, Lenoir City; Mrs. Elizabeth Brock, Sweetwater; Mrs. Jennie Blair, Cartersville, GA; and William Giles, Paint Rock [my William Giles?]. According to a map of Tennessee counties I just consulted, Roane and Loudon seem almost to join the very northwest corner of Monroe, so maybe you're on the right track. Please let me know if and how any of this fits *your* research. Thanks. ~Dawnelle
