I've solved this puzzle. DeWitt Clinton Gile was the son of Joseph Guile and Polly Hammond. Joseph died in 1836, and then DeWitt was then adopted by Joseph Hart Chittenden. Andrew Gile was his brother, Adaline was really Caroline and was the wife of Andrew.
