I express my thanks to Nancy who has posted here before. She has done a thorough investigation building from 1790 in the Shetlands onwards to build a complete Gilbertson line.

She was very generous in sharing her Leith connections and whilst we are apparently not directly connected they are a fascinating history of the process of emigration from the Islands which many families undertook.

I would love to hear from others who have similar stories and connections to Leith and Edinburgh. I would also be happy to help share these online.

As I mentioned before it would be great to develop a resource for UK mainland Gilbertons. Please say if you know of or provide one already. Otherwise can anyone forward links to relevant existing online trees?

Regards,
Mike
