Happy 2004 to you and all the other Gilbertson's out there... I really get into this genealogy stuff.... and I am not one.....to give up when I have hit my head on the brick wall so many times It should be black and blue by now.....That not giving up, takes years of practice.....just when you think you'll never know.....guess what.....you find it all....I didn't think my Gilbertson's fell out of the sky when they got here from Norway....but I just couldn't go back any farther than my Great Grandfather and Hillsboro, North Dakota.....finally I had.... had enough and I went to Hillsboro....didn't find a thing...except the sweet lady at the Historical Center happen to mention a women from Iowa claimimg that the Iowa Gilbertson's and the Hillsboro Gilbertson's might have connections. Well I didn't think so (as no one ever talked about Iowa)....I called this woman in Iowa....and now I have so many new Cousins it isn't even funny.....They were all from Allamakee County...Old West Paint Creek.....I figured my g-g-grandfather's last name would be Gilbertson...wrong....It is Anton Gulbrandson Nystuen......I know now that I have the right family....as My Grandfather was born in Allamakee County....and later confirmed this Iowa connection when I decided to send for my great-grandfathers death certificate and it listed his parents names on there and he died in 1925..... When I sent for the certificate I did not know the year of death for sure...so I wrote to Bismark and gave all the info I knew like birth year and place, the Town that I figured he died in and spouse's name. they found it and sent it to me....so see pay attention to all documents....compare times and places....what I missed was my g-grandparents got married in Hillsboro, my grandfather was born in Iowa and they came back to Hillsboro.....
