Thanks. The Edward Davidson, Junior who married Emily Gilbert in Amherst Co., VA was a son of Edward Davidson, Senior and Judith PENDLETON. Also, Edward Davidson, Senior had a younger brother who was named Giles Davidson, and Giles moved to Amherst Co., VA around 1800 or so. Giles Davidson was married to a Mina/Jemina PENDLETON (and they had a son who was named Micajah Davidson....no doubt named for the Micajah PENDLETON in that same overall PENDLETON family). If Humphrey Gilbert's wife was also a Miss PENDLETON, than that would show even more "connections" between the Davidsons and the Gilberts.
At this point, I would be VERY surprised if Mace H. Gilbert (who also married into my/this Davidson family) was not a son of the above Humphrey Gilbert. Does a birth place (born around 1812) of "Caroline City, VA" for Mace H. Gilbert (as some researchers have claimed), however, "make any sense" to you? The above-referenced Humphrey Gilbert seems to have been the man of that name who was on the 1810 Amherst Co., VA census. Thanks again.
