There was a Humphrey Gilbert whose family was in the above areas of VA, and he was married to a Paulina. Their KNOWN children were: Emily W. Gilbert (born about 1813), Joseph Gilbert, William P. Gilbert, Judith Elbina Gilbert, Humphrey Anderson Gilbert, George Gilbert, Sophia Jan Gilbert and Lee Anna/Leanna Gilbert (died 14 May 1879). The above daughter named Emily W. Gilbert married Edward Davidson, Junior (married in the 1830s in AMHERST Co., VA), and he was a son of Edward Davidson, Senior and Judith Pendleton, and a grandson of David Davidson (born circa-1715 in James City Co., VA; died about 1798 in Buckingham Co, VA) and Mary Giles.
Note: There was a Humphrey Gibert who was on the 1810 Amherst Co., VA census, and he was on the same page of that census as a Phillip Thurmond. I SUSPECT that he was the SAME Humphrey Gilbert who married Paulina. Can anyone confirm or refute that?
There was also a man who was named Mace H. (Humphrey?) Gilbert (born about 1812), and he married Martha Jane Davidson. Martha was a daughter of Josiah Davidson, Junior and Elizabeth Hardeman (that couple left VA and ended-up in Limestone Co., AL....as did Mace H. Gilbert), a granddaughter of Josiah Davidson, Senior and Rebecca Giles and a great-granddaughter of the above-mentioned David Davidson and Mary Giles of Buckingham Co., VA. Mace H. Gilbert's children included another Emily Gilbert and another Leanna Gilbert, and I strongly suspect that Mace H. Gilbert was the oldest child of Humphrey and Paulina (Unknown) Gilbert. Can anyone confirm or refute that Mace H. Gilbert was, in fact, their son?
Note: Some researchers show that Mace H. Gilbert was born in 1812 in "Caroline City" (Caroline Co., VA, perhaps)? I do not know if that is correct, but if it is, then that would seem to "be at odds" with him being a son of the Humphrey Gilbert who was on the 1810 Amherst Co., VA census (unless Humphrey Gilbert moved between 1810 and 1812). Any comments on that particular "issue?"
In 1870 in Davidson Co., TN, a young (age 19) James Davidson was living in the home of Carter Thurmond and his wife Mary Gilbert. Carter Thurmond was out of Amherst Co., VA (and he was a member of the same Thurmond family as the Phillip Thurmond who was on the 1810 Amherst census....and living close to Humphrey Gilbert), and I SUSPECT that Carter Thurmond's wife Mary Gilbert was also out of Amherst Co., VA. There was an Andrew Gilbert (age 42, as I recall) who also living in that same home with Carter Thurmond in 1870. DNA testing has proven that the referenced young James Davidson was a member of the same overall Davidson family as the above-referenced David Davidson of Buckingham Co., VA (my research indicates that this James Davidson was a descendant of David Davidson's brother who was named William Davidson....and who was also born circa-1715 in James City Co., VA). Does anyone know the lineage/pedigree of this Mrs. Mary (Gilbert) Thurmond and/or this Andrew Gilbert who were in Davidson Co., TN in 1870?
Finally, there was a Thomas G. Gilbert who was supposedly born in the 1790s in NC. Thomas G. Gilbert married Elizabeth Dancy Thurmond (born early-1800s), and Elizabeth was also out of the "Amherst Co., VA Thurmonds." That couple also came to Davidson Co., TN. Does anyone know the lineage/pedigree of that Thomas G. Gilbert?
Based on the stated "connections," I certainly SUSPECT that ALL of the above-referenced Gilberts were probably members of the SAME overall Gilbert family out of VA (albeit, no proof). Thanks!
