I have the transcription of a will of a Benjamin Gilbert dtd. 7 Nov. 1791, from Wills A & B, Inventory and Estates of Greene Co., Ga. Will Book 1, page 144. This Benjamin died circa 14 January 1792, when it was proven in court and recorded the 23rd of same month. Letters testamentary were granted to Michael Gilbert and Benjamin Gilbert (his sons) and warrant of appraisement to Tunstall Roan, William Street and William Gilbert(relationship not known, but not a named son by Benjamin's will). Wife: Elizabeth Sons: Benjamin, Michael, Martin and Robert Daughters: Betsey Gilbert; Nancy Brown, Sally Gilbert. Mary Smith, Martha Hayth (I have wrote this will I transcribed about 10 years ago in large letters HAYTH) so as not to be confused in my own transcription at a later date. Whether this helps anyone or not, I don't know but this gives a Benjamin in Greene Co. in 1791, dying there. I don't know if his children or spouse drew in the 1805 land lottery, etc. but this surely would be my next step. I know Benjamin is a rather common name for the period, but since you have a Benjamin dying early 1830 and this Benjamin born by 1791, I would certainly attempt to go follow these children of a Benjamin. The will gave certain bequest to a person named Clement Miller, and no relationship was shown. Daughter Sally was Benjamin's youngest child. Notify Administrator about this message?
