To the best of my knowledge, Joseph Hiram's parents are not known, but his DNA tells us which Gilbert lines he's not from...

He's not from the Bucks County Gilbert line which many family files indicate (and Fairfax/Loudon Co., VA records don't supoort), and he's also not from the Garvis Gilbert of Maryland line.

His DNA does indicate, however, that he's somehow related to an Elijah Gilbert of Tipton Co., IN who was born in NY in about 1805. If typical migrations pattern were followed by this Gilbert line, then you would assume Joseph had to have come from NY or points further northeast.
