Ray's suggestion of getting DNA tested was a good one.

Royalton, VT is in Windsor County where we have another Gilbert DNA participant stuck. Her donor's match was a solid match with the Thomas Gilbert of Braintree, MA line, though, so we at least know what Gilbert line they're a apart of even if we don't know how they connect yet.

Here's the lineage of the person who is stuck in Windsor County:

If you go to the results page, you'll see the large orange block of participants at the top who have tested and are a part of the Braintree line. It is one of the oldest Gilbert lines in the county, and I would guess the largest. Thomas Gilbert who immigrated to Mass. in the 1630 had at least 18 grandsons by the mid-to-late 1600s, so the line grew in leaps and bounds very quickly.
