This is a very good post by Scott Williams. I have comments based on some research by me and from information found in the book "The Gilbert Family: descendents of Thomas Gilbert, 1582 (?)-1659, of Mt. Wollaston (Braintree), Windsor, and Wethersfield by Homer Worthington, Harold Stimeon Gilbert, and Clarence Almon Torrey, edited with a forward by Donald Jacobus. -1984, c 1953, 508p. US/CAN FICHE AREA 6088085.
Thomas #6 (1592-<1659)- The book "Gilbert Family" starts with Thomas and family in America. There is no information about their life in England. The six sons and one daughter who immigrated to America were: Joathan, Thomas, Ezekiel, John, Josiah, Obadiah and Sarah. Detailed information about his descendents in America are contained in this book. Lydia ___ was listed as his wife. She was accused in 1654 of procuring the death of Henry Stiles and sentenced under the witchcraft law. She was duly hung in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. Thomas could have been married before Lydia.
Thomas #11 (-1661-)- "Gilbert Family" stated that Thomas was born about 1620 in England; died in Springfield, Mass. June 5, 1662. He married Catherine Chapin Bliss June 30,1655. She was born Abt. 1562 in Berry, Pomeroy, Devonshire, England. Thomas was married once in America. Catherine Chapin was a widow of Nathaniel Bliss (-1654), Thomas Gilbert (-1662) and Samuel Marshfield (-1692) in that order. She had four children by each of her three husbands (my research). She died February 4, 1712/3 in Springfield, Mass., USA.
Note that the above information also links one of the distinct and unrelated Gilbert families listed in (20) on page 3 of 48 as posted by Scot Williams.
