The lineage of that family has been traced very effectively by Gladys Mahlmeister in a book she published within the past few years. Subsequent to her publication of the book, we discovered linkage to additional offspring of Thomas and Sarah Gilbert.
My particular research focused on John Wesley Gilbert, Son of Thomas and Sarah Gilbert. Thomas was killed in the war of 1812 and Sarah continued raising the children. She died in Oktibbeha County Mississippi living with her son John Wesley Gilbert sometime after 1860. The children of John Wesley Gilbert came to Texas following the war.
Those children included Dr. Franklin Monroe Gilbert, Dr. Jackson Marion Gilbert, Dr. Daniel Webster Gilbert, and Dr. Henry Clay Gilbert. One son Allen Brocton Gilbert was killed at Bolton Mississippi in the Battle of Champion's hill in the Civil War.
Another son, John Wesley Gilbert Jr. remained in Mississippi and was killed by railroad agents near Pheba Mississippi in 1888. His widow Virginia Gilbert moved to Delta County Texas and eventually to Hood County Texas where she purchased the land that Texas had given to David Crockett's widow. Their living descendents reside in Abilene Texas, Grandbury Texas, and Alberquerque New Mexico.
The four sons who became doctors each lived a days ride apart on the western outskirts of Dallas.
I am related to the sole daughter Laurania Anne or (Annie Lou) Gilbert Price who lost her husband in 1879 and son in 1884. She moved to Texas with four daughters and lived with her brother Dr. Daniel Webster Gilbert in the Arlington Area. The daughters married into the Billington, Stults, and Lucas Families. Living descendents are plentiful around Jackson County Oklahoma, Menlo Park California, and in the present day Grapevine Texas area.
Another son, Thomas B. Gilbert moved to Erath County Texas and farmed in the area around Dublin. The final son Zachery Taylor Gilbert died in Louisiana in the period between 1880 and 1900.
I have quite a bit of information on the John Wesley Gilbert Line and Gladys is the expert on John and Jane and Thomas/Sarah Gilbert plus the remainder of Thomas and Sarah's children. Many descendents of Thomas and Sarah reside in Alabama around Jasper. Please email me if you would like more, I do have a paper published.
