I descend from a son of Henry Gilbert, born 1812. He died in 1854 in Grant Co., Wisconsin.Henry's wife, Hannah was a d/o Nicholas Philipps, a Loyalist from New York, who moved after the Revolution to Canada. In 1824, Hannah Phillips was born and within 24 hours, her mother (also a Hannah Phillips) died. The verbal history of the family is that after the death of her mother 24 hours after her birth, Hannah was raised by "the Winings" and moved to Illinois, where she met Henry Gilbert and married him (1842 Wisconsin Territorial Marriage). We have came to speculate that the Winings were "Winans" and in fact a Lewis Winans, in 1842, lived in Wisconsin Territory. His (Lewis') second wife was a Northup (Lucinda). His first wife was JANE GILBERT.I am wondering if this family of Col. Thomas Gilbert and Major Thomas Gilbert of Nova Scotia is the ancestor of Jane Gilbert Winans was born in 1812 in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia? She died in 1851 in Galena, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois.Sometime after that Lewis married Lucinda Northup. Lewis and Lucinda as very elderly people resided in Sacramento, California.Do you know anything at all about the female Gilberts?I have tried to find the father of my great-great-grandfather Henry Gilbert for most of my adult life. His parents are my brick wall.
