you said: "The deed stated the land in question was inherited by William Gilbert from his grandfather, John Brooks"
WRW notes: 1749-1778 Anson Co., NC Abstract of Probate Reports:
July 13, 1774William Brooks & Jesse Gilbert, deed pr. by John Colson. (this was in the posting to which you responded:"Records of Gilberts in Anson Co, NC relating to my Brooks family: 13 Jul 1774 - Wm. Brooks to Jesse Gilbert, deed, pr. by John Colson (from Anson Co, NC abstracts)
Since Jesse Gilbert b 1736 had the 1774 transaction with William Brooks, and his brother John Hale Gilbert m Elizabeth Brooks, it looks like William Brooks was dealing with Jesse b 1736, as was ? John Brooks.
I don't see how Jesse could have inherited from John Brooks, unless it were Jesse son of John Hale Gilbert. However I have a note in my files that Jesse b 1736, "Could he have had 2 other wives?"
Could John Hale Gilbert have had a son named William?, or brother Jesse b 1736; or is there another Gilbert connected somewhere. No response necessary.
Thanks.Yes, it is fun.
