Hello Baylus: John Brooks, who died about 1790, was the grandfather of William Gilbert. It appears, at this time without confirmation, that John's daughter was Elizabeth. One Jesse Gilbert lost some land in a tax sale(the claiming state entity was Orange County) in 1795 in Anson County. The execution was from Orange County. The land sold had been conveyed by Jesse Gilbert to John Brooks in 1789. My "assumption" is that Jesse got it back by will when John died after 1790. He seems to have died (John) between 1789 and 1793.Jim S. Brooks
