Belinda Lamport
Josph and Anna [Waite] Gilbert who lived in St Joseph Co.,MI. from 1838 to 1850 had listed with their children a Belinda Lamport. I have notes on her as follows. I am requesting any additional info. or corrections.
Belinda Sofia Lamport was raised as a daughter byJoseph and Anna Gilbert from the age of 5 weeks but apparently she kept her birth name.
The Gilberts had a baby girl born in St. Joseph Co., MI, March 7, 1830 who died soon after. In Waterford ,Eirie, PA, Altha [Gibbs] Lamport and Hiram Lamport had a baby girl, March 26, 1830, and named her Belinda Sofia Lamport. The baby was healthy but her mother, Altha, died a week later, April 3, 1830, leaving Hiram with an infant daughter. I don't know* how Hiram knew the Gilberts but he came with the infant to Leonidas, St. Joseph, MI, and gave her to Anna to raise as her own daughter.
She grew up in Leonidas with the Gilberts and on March 21, 1852, married Loring Phineas Wilcox, son of Newcolm and Miranda [Stearns] Wilcox in Branch Co., MI. They lived in Coldwater, Branch, MI where Loring became Sheriff.Their son, Clark Bruce Wlcox, was born Oct 1, 1862 and a daughter Altha Wilcox was born July 11, 1869, both in Branch Co..
Belinda's birth father, Hiram Lamport was born Jan. 20, 1803 in Sharon, Schoharie, NY. Altha [Gibbs] Lamport . from Waterford, Eirie, PA, was born about 1805 and died April 3, 1830.
The Gilberts and the Lamports must have maintained a relationship as evidenced by the youngest daughter, Lucinda J. [1834] marrying Ansel Lamport [1830- on
Nov. 21, 1852.
Joseph Gilbert was from Naples, Ontario, New York
Loring P. Wilcox [and parents] were from Naples, Ontario, NY
Hiram Lamport was from NYSo..... I suppose old connections from their home state played a part in this story.*
