Ebenezer GILBERT b. 1772 probably (?)N.C.Very possible his parents came from Va.(?)
First & only record of N.C. is 1801 court record where he was "given" a 7 yr. old Obediah Hardin to raise.
In 1810 he appears in Tenn. record as a bondsman for marriage. He was bondsman for few other marriages later on, including Obediah Hardin's marriage to "Hull"
He had two sons that I am aware of:JOHN FLETCHER GILBERT,
and JAMES GILBERT.Have copy of Ebenezer's will, land deed, land survey.Guardianship records begin in 1850 for James GILBERT's heirs (Samuel, Julius and daughters) James must have died about 1850.Ebenezer GILBERT's will was proved 1853.HOLT family, friends of GILBERT, around 1850? SOME of them became Morman's and so HOLT family has excellent records showing Va., N.C., before there & after, numerous.
I find a few GILBERT's, same time as Ebenezer in Halifax, N.C., but so far have no proof of just how or if they connect.JOHN FLETCHER GILBERT moved from Wilson CO., Tenn. after marrying Sarah DAVIS in 1834.Land Records, census records show them in HEMPSTEAD CO., ARK.Land was purchased from an Indian chief. This is just outside of Hope, Ark, near what is called Washington Historical Sight now.John Fletcher GILBERT (1st) son named after him, this 2nd John Fletcher GILBERT is my gr. grandfatherand my grandmother, Emma Redelia GILBERT COLEMAN's father) The older children in this Coleman family started moving to the Kansas CITY, Ks. area for jobs and all family eventually moved there. In Hempstead Co., close to historical sight is Westmoreland Cemetery where several GILBERT's were buried. No Jr. or Sr. in records for John F. Gilbert.
Believe the lst John F. GILBERT was buried on his property, just across road from the Westmoreland cemetery. All grown up in weeds, etc. now.2nd John F. GILBERT was buried. Westmoreland cemetery, along with his three wives. He had General Store, cotton gin, saw mill, mail left on outside store hook from train in little town by RR track called Powers.
