Mr. Walker,
We have been in contact before in regard to Charlie Gilbert with sons Timothy, born in Pasquotank, and James, born in Camden Co, and daughter Penelope of Pasquotank Co NC.
I have since found out Charlie also had a son named Martin, born in 1836 in NC. He was named after his uncle.I believe I found this Martin,Martin Van Buren Gilbert,in the Civil War listing, who was born in 1836 and served in the NC regiment at the same place as my grgrandfather Timothy. A cousin sent a picture of this Martin which was taken at Raleigh,NC by JW Watson Studio. My grgrandfather Timothy named his oldest son James Martin.
My cousin also sent a picture of Ruben Davis, taken in Elizabeth City,NC in 1893. He looks to be in his 20's. He is probably the son of Penelope and Earl Davis of Pasquotank.
I also have a picture of Blanch Walker Gilbert and her brother Lloyd Walker. James Gilbert had a son ,Tim,who married the above Blanch. They moved to Washington Co.Theirfamily descendents live in Currituck,NC. James Gilbert had a daughter Blanche who married a distant cousin Jn. Gilbert[must mean John]. They also lived in Washington Co.One of the Blanch's had a daughter named Dollie, born in 1917.
Blanch Walker Gilbert had a brother-in-law named Lloyd Gilbert and one named Thomas Griffin Gilbert who moved to New Port Hews,VA.Thomas' son went to the mountains of Va. where my Gilbert's lived before they moved back to NC. My grgrandfather Timothy and Lacy, among others, were raised in a cabin along the Va/Tn boarder near Haysi,Dickinson Co Tn. I think he had a brother named David B. and one named Andrew who was killed in the war. Lately, some people from that area have been in touch to say they think Charlie is from the family of Garvis.
I have found a lot of information about Charlie's family but nothing about him or who he married. Timothy lived with a family named Charles, who are probably relatives, after his parent's died which was a few years before the war.
I have developed an interest in the Martin Gilbert line, hoping to stumble across some ancestors.
Thanks,
Sam
