GILBERT - Brookfield, Mass. to VT
Vermont genealogy research can be difficult for inexperienced researchers. One town has made this process easier. The Cavendish Historical Society, Cavendish, VT has just reprinted their award winning genealogical social history book: Families of Cavendish Vol. 1.This books includes comprehensive genealogies on the following New England rooted families: Adams, Baldwin, Coffeen, Dutton, Fletcher, Gilbert, Grout, Lovell, Proctor, Russell, Spafford and Wheelock (with a lengthy chapter on the early history of the town and its proprietors)
The goal of the Cavendish Historical Society in publishing these volumes is to preserve the stories of people of the Black River Valley region of Windsor County, Vermont -past and present. We search their New England beginnings, follow the generations in their settlement in Cavendish and surrounding Black River Valley towns, and where possible, trace subsequent generations who migrated Westward or to other distant places. Each volume contains comprehensive genealogical and social information, family stories, 'talk of the town' excerpts from the local newspaper, local folklore, family letters, diaries, Civil War stories, photographs, poems, and more. The final product of each volume constitutes many years of time consuming volunteer work. All proceeds from the sale of each book go toward supporting the activities of the Cavendish Historical Society.
