The Butleigh parish register isn't online yet, but I am in the process of contacting them direct. While trying to piece it together myself I also came up with the 1841 census George living with Susanna (who, if right, would be his mother. His ?father would have been Humphrey who died in 1839). Still a possibility. The Samuel George you mention in the 1851 census cannot be right as George was already married with two children by then. I've come across a few Georges and a couple of Annas (his sister) born around the right times, but no matching parents!
I already came across your site during my travels. It would be great to make some links. I had a look at the DNA site too, but someone's going to have to explain all that to me! On a lighter note, I was surprised to see how many Giffords were either farmers or glove makers! By the way, it's Gifford with a hard G.
