Joan, I believe that we may be distantly related through Othniel Gidley and Eleanor (variety of spellings!) Mann. After Eleanore, Elizabeth, Mary, Othniel, Ann and Charles, farmer Othniel and Eleanor had several more children who were all christened in the Blackawton area including Maria (1814), John (1816), Jane Maria (1819), Richard Bickford (1821) and Charles (15 Oct 1823). As Eleanor died on 16 Oct 1823 it looks as if she may have died during his birth. My line is through their son John Gidley (1816), who is my GGGfather, and moved to London in the 1830s. One of his sons, Charles Edwin Gidley, is my GGfather. John's elder brother Othniel (who seems to be the last Gidley to have this name), was a Millwright who married Sarah Tremlett from Crediton, moved to Gloucester, Banbury and settled in Warwick, . He named his second son George "Mann" Gidley which indicates some further evidence of the commection. Any further information that you have on the Blackawton/Buckfastleigh line would be helpful.
