I would like to compare notes with anyone else whose ancestors said their particular branch of Giddenses were GERMANS. My dad and grandad, Mayes Elmer Giddens, both said that our Giddenses were Germans. However, almost everyone else says their branch is Irish, English, or Welsh, or Swiss. I know one line of German Gideon(s)
came to VA, and intermarried with the Blackburns and others.
Our Giddens came to TX late (1890's, lived in MS Madison county,(1860's) moved there from GA. In GA from 1840-50 they lived in at least De Kalb, and Bibb Counties. Evidently, they all worked sometime or another with the railroad, often as engineers. I suppose they lived in GA from the early 1800's, and before that NC.
