I also am related to Reuben Giddens through the Malinda Mowery you mentioned. My research indicates the following: the Giddens of Wilkes-Burke Co do not seem to be related to the Giddens of Surry Co., NC; there does seem to be relationship among the following Giddens, James, who moved to Hawkins Co., Tenn, and Edward, whom I have lost about 1800 (not James' son), James of Burke Co., and Polly of Wilkes Co. Polly may have been the widow of James of Burke, or of Edward whom I have lost. Margaret of the 1800 census may have been James widow. Edward appears to have a son named Edward. The possibilities then become almost unlimited as to the relationships. Reuben could be the son of Margaret, or Polly, or Margaret and Polly are the same person, or Edward, or James, etc. Reuben and James are probably brothers, cousins, or uncle and nephew. There is a book written by descendents of James, who moved to Tenn, that states the Giddens came to Va in 1765, moved to NY, and before the Revolution moved to NC. I would most like to hear from anyone who is a descendent of Edward. I would also like to get more info on Burke Co records. From that we may be able to figure out how Edward, who drops out of site, is related to James of Burke, and how Reuben and James are related to Edward and James of Burke. Descendents of Edward may help define that relationship.
