Jim, I don’t have any record of Reuben Giddens and Nancy Stratton but maybe you should
ask Emily Woodall Ivey (see her note under Re:GIDDENS dated 6/13/98) because she has
written a book which might have him listed. The Mary Elizabeth Giddens that I have was
called “Betty” and was born 27 March 1838 and died 16 April 1918. This is 28 years after
yours which could possibly make her a niece? Her parents were Jacob Giddens (18
September 1794 - 7 December 1873) and Eliza Waters (1804-1880) and who might have
been contemporaries of the parents you are researching: Reuben Giddens and Nancy
Stratton. I suppose my Jacob and your Reuben could have been brothers? However, I have
no record of where Jacob came from, though Ireland seems very likely. I also don’t have any
information about whether my Mary Elizabeth Giddens ever married and had children, so the
name of William Martin Preece is new to me. I wish I could be of more help.
