Erastus was referred to as James by his grandaughter . He married Adaline Trice in Georgia on 22 Dec. 1848.
Before the Civil War he moved to Red River Parish or Bienville Parish in Louisiana.
Erastus was in the Cavalry in the war and was a POW.
I don't know when he died, except it was before the census in 1900. In that census in Coushatta, RR Parish, LA, many of his children were spelling the name Giddings, but earlier records use Giddens.
