Dear Cousin Mary...
Thank you for your post on the Gibson's genealogy board.I appreciate all the information you provided in the post. And yes, you are correct, I stated the physical attributes of my Iowa Gibson's in hope that someone would identify with those physical characteristics--which I also share.
I would love to share more information with you at your convience.I've just received the death certificate of my ggggrandfather's brother, John Gibson. He died in California after being hit by a truck. He was 88 or 89 years old when he died. The death certificate states his parents were Isaac Gibson and Sarah Rhodes.AND HE WAS BORN IN KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI--which bears out what you stated about the Gibson's going to Missouri. That is the first I've heard of this and I'm most appreciative your comments.
I also would like to thank you regarding your information on the "Isaac Gibson was killed by Indians on way to Iowa" story.I'm new at the genealogy research and have found at least a handful of "Isaac Gibsons" in Iowa around 1860.I've been told that "Gibson" is/was a very common Scottish name, much like Smith is nowadays.
I've visited Avon Cemetery in Iowa and have pictures of Thomas Gibson's gravestone. At the time of my visit I didn't know of all the Gibsons buried there or would have looked longer and spent more time doing research.
I would be happy to share what information I have on the Gibson's with you but it certainly appears that you have much more insight and information than I.Which branch of the Gibsons do you come from? And can you relate how the indian hertige came about? One of my other "Gibson cousins" has information, verbal, that stated her Gibson relative stated she was 1/8th Cherokee. My mother, Hazel Gibson, stated that Cherokee heritage was "somewhere" with the Gibson's but she never stated where it originated nor whether it was male or female.I would be indebted to you for any information you may have.
Thank you again (your California cousin)
