I quoted exactly from the book page about Isham and John LeMay. I have no idea if he actually was a slave or not. The book indicated it believed he was his slave??
I did not intend that everyone think 'everything' I quoted in different paragraphs was all from my own direct lineage. I am aware that many on this site are very experienced researchers BUT not EVERYONE. When those who are so advancedsee something they already know, they should overlook it. It may help someone else up another rung. Be considerate.
I misspoke my lineage- going from memory saying my direct line was from John, son of Peter and Sarah. You are correct and I appreciate your calling this to attention of not just myself but for those newer researchers I just discussed.

4.) Lewis LeMay Sr. b 12 April 1784 Mecklenburg Co VA? d 15 April 1857 Town Creek, Lawrence Co AL ( have photos), md Lucy/May Ussery- buried beside him.

Gilbert Gibson Sr. of perfect mind and memory, for love and affection give, grant and confirm unto Gedion Gibson and Jordon Gibson, when of age, Tabitha Gibson and Mary Gibson and the child which shall please Godhereafter be born; If a girl, the same quanity of land and utensils as the other Girls at the day of marriage; If a boy, the same as the other boys when on age. JOHN LEMAY and SAMUEL LEMAY, when of age; SARAH LEMAY at the day of marriage, George Gibson and Susanna his wife during life; Benjamin Brannum and Frances his wife, during their lives and after their decease to heirs above mentioned; all and singular my Goods and Chattels and personal estate whatsoever. etc etc.

To John Lemay 200 acres on Ballinger Creek in Albermarle Co. 1 Negro wench, 1 horse, 1 mare, 1 bed and furniture, 2 cows, 2 head sheep, 1 iron pot, 1 dish, 2 pewter basons, 2 plates, hafld oz. spoons, 1 gun, 1 table, 1 chest, when of age.
To Samuel Lemay, 1 cow with first calf to be delivered when of age.
To Sarah Lemay 1 cow with first calf to be delivered on day of marriage
I lend to George Gibson the plantation he now lives on, etc
I lend to Benjamin Brannun and Frances, his wife, the plantation on which he now lives, etc.
I give all my good and chattles, personal household stuff, etc to Gedion Gibson, Jordon Gibson, Tabitha Gibson, Mary Gibson and the child that shall be born.
Wit: Wm. Sharp Smith, Edward Lain, Lightfoot (L) Smith. Memorandum; 18 Dec 1756, I, Gilbert Gibson, do appoint my wife; SARAH GIBSON, to be my sole executrix. If I return home to be void til otherwise determined before three witnesses. 22 FEB 1757 acknowledged by Gilbert Gibson.

My D.A.R. certificate is for my John LeMay, RW Pension Application no. S7147. He was in 14th Regmt. of VA line udner Capt. John Winston. His last pension check was sent o Oxford, Granville Co NA. ( I have copy of it. and records of his famiy from his family Bible.) My D.A.R. membership number is 788860- supplemental to my first accepted member, William White.
If I can answer more questions I will be happy to. It is not my desire to spread stories to confuse others. I do try to share items regarding all LeMay's in hopes the right researcher may come across them. Later, Ginny Keefer
