William B Gipson had as one of his brothers, Joseph Perry "Joe" Gibson b.9oct1849 in AL.In the Owens Family Tree the Author has included a copy of his 1931 Obituary and a following note that says "his Mother was Peggy Holmes Gibson".Peggy was a nickname almost always isentified with Margaret. It also says Joe was born Fishing Creek KY which is very, very unlikely, but it is likely the family came from "Fishing Creek" area before coming to AL.The birth records of the Stephens children consistently say the older Children of Stephen were born KY but the ones born 1838 and later were born in AL.
Fishing Creek was the name given by Confederates of a early famous battle in eastern KY.Fishing Creek today is one of the NE "legs" of Lake Cumberland just west of Somerset.I remember there being somewhere a set of maps of most of the waterways in KY in the 1800's, so if you can find one and look for that name in the area I mentioned and you can see how long it runs.
There was a S. Gibson in Wayne Co KY which is just below this location, but he had 4 slaves which seems doubtful for this family. But again, since that was a famous name in the South, it might just be a way to indicate a whole general area.
Very good fodder to follow-up on!
