It appears to me that the Andrew Gibson who was a son of James Gibson and Jane Fin from Scotland was from a different/unrelated family versus the Gibsons in Charles City Co., VA (that included Gibby Gibson). The later family in VA apparently also had an Andrew Gibson in it, however, and that Andrew Gibson was also in the Orange/Guilford Co., NC area in the mid-late-1700s (per research by others that I have not verified on my own....one record shows this other Andrew Gibson (born about 1755) as a son of a George Gibson, who was born about 1730).I wonder if the above two Andrew Gibsons in the same general area of NC have possibly been been "incorrectly intermixed" by some researchers?
I note that you mentioned a couple of the sons of the "Scottish Andrew Gibson" and his wife Jane Freeland (Moses and Joseph). You did not mention any of their daughters, one of whom was supposedly the Jinny/Jenny Gibson who married James Richardson Thompson in Guilford Co., NC in 1817 (James R. Thompson had lived in Pittsylvania Co., VA previously, it appears).Do you know if there is any PROOF that this Jinny/Jenny Gibson was DEFINITELY a daughter of the "Scottish Andrew Gibson" (i.e., was there a will or other document that shows that his daughter had the married last name of "Thompson")?Also, I see from various records that Gibsonville, NC was named for a Joseph Gibson. Was that perhaps the above Joseph Gibson (i.e., the son of "Scottish" Andrew and Jane (Freeland) Gibson)?
There was a Mrs. Elizabeth (Unknown) Davidson (the widow of a William Davidson from VA) who died in Guilford Co., NC by the 1830s or so, and a James Thompson and a John Gibson attempted to petition the court for at least some of Elizabeth's slaves. This make me believe that Mrs. Elizabeth Davidson was a Miss Gibson.I SUSPECT that this James Thompson was the same James R. Thompson who had married Jinny Gibson (and it is certainly likely that the referenced John Gibson was Jinny's close relative), but if that should all be correct, I don't see how Mrs. Elizabeth Davidson and Mrs. Jinny (Gibson) Thompson could have been from the same Gibson family....since it appears that Elizabeth had married William Davidson up in VA by the mid-1760s.The only way that this "scenario" seems to "compute" is if Elizabeth was not the first and only wife of William Davidson, and hence, not the mother of at least his older children (we know that one of William's sons named Josiah Davidson was born in VA around 1766, and William Davidson did not leave VA and move to NC until about 1780).
This above makes me wonder if the Jinny Davidson who married James R. Thompson was TRULY a daughter of the "Scottish Andrew Gibson," since the family of that Andrew Davidson does not appear to have ever lived in VA.If you have any information that seems to prove the father of the Jinny Gibson who married James R. Thompson, I would really appreciate it if you would let me know.
By the way, the apparent grandfather of the above William Davidson (a David Davidson who died in Charles City Co., VA in 1756) was closely associated with Gibby Gibson....so that is another reason that I suspected that if William Davidson's wife Elizabeth was truly a Miss Gibson, it was likely that she was out of the "Virginia Gibsons" versus James Gibson and Jane Fin of Scotland....but anything is certainly possible. Thanks!
