I descend from James Gibson, who married Margaret Elenor Corrie 27 Nov 1706 in Dumfries, Scotland. They went to Tyrone County, in the Ulster area of Ireland just across the Irish Sea. They had at least two or three sons in Ireland. Then they sailed to Virginia Colony. Their daughter, Catherine, was born in Lancaster Co., VA.
Did you say you were descended from John Gibson? If he is the John Gibson of Lincoln Co., TN, I doubt that he descends from my James, because that John Gibson, who was born 16 Sept 1760, wrote his last will and testament 4 June 1840 in Lincoln Co., TN. It was proved in 1844.
There was a John Gibson, who is listed on the "List of Early Virginia Immigrants" arrived in 1635 and settled in Henrico Co., VA and acquired lands in Henrico, Charles and Northumberland Counties, VA.
My James Gibson mentioned a son John, deceased, in his will written 14 Apr. 1764. The dates aren't right for the TN John. James didn't give the names of the heirs of is son, John, who had married Elizabeth Call or Phoebe Hendricks ( or both?). This John died in 1762 in Frederick Co., VA. Not my research. What I've gathered from other people. Iris
