Dan, Here is the newspaper article on the death of W.F. Gibson, Jr. The following is from the Beaumont Enterprise of Sunday: August 19, 1915.
W.F. Gibson, Jr., a printer, 36 years old, walked into the Shamrock Bar on Main Street last night shortly before 7 o'clock and ordered a "whiskey straight." C. S. Brittain, the bartender, gave Gibson the whiskey and turned to get the chaser for him. Gibson emptied the contents of a one-ounce bottle of carbolic acid in the glass of whiskey. When Brittain returned with the water he noted the odor of the acid and asked Gibson what he was doing. Gibson stepped back from the bar as Brittain reached for the glass, and drank the contents before any one could interfere.
"I have killed myself," he announced, as he turned and sat down in a chair.
A physician arrived a few moments later with a stomach pump. Gibson's stomach was emptied and he was sent home, but he died about an hour later.
Gibson is the son of Dr. W. F. Gibson, and has spent the greater part of his life in Beamont. He leaves a wife and one child.
Gibson was working in Beaumont as a substitute printer. Work had not been plentiful recently. he was despondent, and he told several fellow workmen yesterday that he was going to kill himself.....
The Beaumont Local, No. 339, of the Typographical Union, will have charge of the funeral. The arrangements were not completed last night. The body is being held by Pipkin and Brulin.
Mr. Gibson was born and raised in Livingston, and worked here at the printing trade for a number of years.
