Andrew J. Gibson obit 12/18/1867, from NY to MI
I am not related but came across a lengthy obit in the Kalamazoo paper dated 12/18/1867.The print is small and hard to read, so I will not try and post the entire article. It says he died in Dansville NY where he was seeking relief at the Water Cure establishment. He was born in Morris NY, and his parents were unable to provide means for a good education, so he put himself thru school at the Delaware Institute in Franklin NY.In 1850 he went to law office of J. (Jacob) L. Hawes in Coblesville NY to study law until Mr. Hawes moved to Kalamazoo in 1851. Then Mr. Gibson taught school in Somerville NJ for one winter. He then moved to Kalamazoo, where his health prevented him from continuing with the law studies and he went into the book trade. He was taken to Utica NY to be buried where he had relatives.
He is listed in the 1860 census in Kalamazoo MI, sgl, 34.
