Royal Gibson, nephew of Phineas Gibson Sumter County, SC 1800
I am working on Royal Gibson (son of John James Gibson) and nephew
of Phineas Gibson. Seems like much has been written about Phineas
and his sons, one being Samuel Royal Gibson. Not much on Royal, the
son of John James Gibson and his wife Jane Nebitt. All this people
were from Sumter County, SC. Sometimes Clarendon shows up but most
of the time Sumter. Royal, I THINK, was married twice. I
followed him in the census records and his age was always correct
but in a later census his wife was many years younger. So I suspect
there was a second marriage. I suspect the second marriage was to
Leonora. I don't know her maiden name but she is my gg-grandmother
and I have her in Sumter along with her children. Ancestry.com had
her listed as Leonard Gibson, I wrote them and they have a
correction on that listing now. I suspect Royal died after the
birth of his last child, Isabelle Gibson, born about 1835 in Sumter
to Leonora. Royal's mother was Jane Nesbit. Don't know who her
parents are at the moment. Do know she was married two more times,
second marriage to Abial Draughons, they had a son named Hampton G.
That son married the daughter of Unity Richbourg Nesbitt. I don't
know who this Unity was married to, I know she was UNity Richbourg
and Nesbitt through marriage but don't know the man's given name.
She left a will in 1819 and named her daughter, Sarah L. Nesbitt as
the wife of Hampton G. Draughons. In the 1820 census Hampton G. is
listed as Drawns. I am told that is the way it sounds when you say
the name. The Draughons Business School was either founded by this
line or they are closely related. I will work on that. Jane married
a third time, this time to Benjamin West and had a son, named
Admiral or Joseph Gibson. I just became aware of this and so
haven't had a chance to reseach more. Getting back to my Gibson
line, Royal died and Leonora moved to Pike County, AL with Rebecca
Delany Gibson. Rebecca was married to John Gibson, then he died and
she married his brother William Ichobod. Both men were sons of
Phineas Gibson and brothers to Samuel Royal Gibson (by the wasy
SAmuel Royal moved to Pike County, AL also. These men were cousins
to my Royal. Royal Gibson and William Icabod Gibson both were in
the Felder's Militia from SC, have to research that more. Seems
like these two men stayed close as did their wifes. I have been
working on this Gibson line since 1969 and just now am making some
progress with the ancestors. I now have hundreds of descendants of
Lenora and her children, what fun to get to know your cousins! Will
be happy to share all I have if anyone else is working on these
lines. Again I have no proof that Leonora is the second wife of
Royal just lots of things pointing to it. Someplace I saw a note
that his first wife might have been a Mary. I know the Will of
Phinehas Gibson is on line, along with the will of Unity Nisbit.
Better stop now hope to hear from someone to help me prove or
disprove my connection of Royal to Lenora. Thanks for this site
enjoy reading all that is posted.
