Update from FamilyTree DNA Gibson Project
The Gibson project now has 30 members with results posted for 24 participants, more to follow soon. So far we have an indication of at least 15 separate ancestral lines, including one exciting declared lineage including Lorenzo Dow Gibson bc 1819 in NY and George Gibson b 1732 in Cork Co., Ireland whose descendants went into VA in the next generation. The more participants the more focused the results will become over time. See the following site for our "Results" page:

On our "Patriarchs" page you will find pedigrees for 7 of the 24 posted participants: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/g/gibson/pats.htmlhttp://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/g/gibson/pats.html
No doubt you have heard something about the positional value DNA has in genealogy. If you've hit a brick wall, and have a closely related male Gibson family member, you might want to consider having them submit their DNA, it really can help. Or perhaps you'd just like to get a better handle on your cousins around the world, DNA will do that too. For more background on DNA you might want to take a look at http://www.wfnforum.net/http://www.wfnforum.net/ .
IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF THE GIBSON PROJECT & MONITORING THIS FORUM, please consider the following:
1) We need your pedigree charts, a/s/a/p. Go to the "Patriarchs" page for the format we use. Write what you know about your earliest ancestors, please use dates and places as much as possible. You can make it for one family group, and/or include several generations. But please, don't guess! Go back only as far as you can prove or feel very confident about.
2) If you have been tested for only 12 markers it is imperative that you upgrade to at least 25 (37 is really better). We have
quite a few 12 marker results that are one or two markers off. With 37 a two marker difference can be insignificant, but at 12 a two marker difference just leaves the situation totally unclear.
3) Should you have an interest in getting more involved with DNA in general and the Gibson Project in particularly, Terry Barton and I could sure use an extra pair of hands.

[Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in FamilyTree or in the Gibson Project. I do this for the love of genealogy and the hope of untangling some of the mysteries surrounding the Gibson clan(s).]
