I am a McAfee researcher, and Margaret, James McAfee's wife, is my ancestor. However, she's not Walter Gibson's widow.
Deborah Singletary Jordan died in Bladen County, N.C. between Sept. 4, 1760 (date of her will), and Feb. 14, 1770 (date of probate). She names the following heirs: brothers Ithama and John Singletary; Deborah, daughter of brother Ithama; daughter Margaret Gibson. She names "brother John" and "son-in-law Walter Gibson" as executors. Therefore, Walter and Margaret Gibson were both still alive and married at the time of James McAfee's death, so Margaret Jordan Gibson can not be James McAfee. Sr's wife and the mother of his children (all born between 1735-1742), and the Jean McAfee who married Joseph Hardin in York County, SC, can't be her daughter. (This is most likely not Col Joseph Hardin - there were 3 Joseph Hardins in the area. Also, the name Gibson appears nowhere in James McAfee's will or probate). This particular Margaret Gibson really can't be James, McAfee Jr's wife, either, as he reportedly married his first wife, Margaret Gibson, about 1758 and she was dead by 1772.None of the dates work.
