Francis J. "Red" Gibbons of Hoffman Estates Francis J. "Red" Gibbons, one of the original homeowners of Hoffman Estates and one of the founders of the Hoffman Estates 4th of July Celebration, passed away Monday, Oct. 5, 2009. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Janet (nee McGuire); loving father to Linda (Rick), Marilyn (Ed), Michael (Dianna), Colleen, Kathy (Rich) and Tom (Cindy); cherished grandfather to Linda (Doug), Amy (Ben), Skip, Michael, Matthew, Katie, AJ, Patrick, Evan and Rorie; and dearest great-grandfather to Reid and Chase. He is also survived by a sister, Pat; brother, Eugene; brothers-in-law, Tom and George; sisters-in-law, Jody, Jackie, Gerry and Lorraine; and many nieces and nephews. Francis was blessed with many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert; and his sister, Dolores. Francis served as a tail gunner in the Army Air Corps in Italy during World War II and was an active member of the V.F.W. Post 8080 and Local 399 Operating Engineers. He was an active member of St. Hubert's Church. He retired from GTE in 1984. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Michaels Funeral Home, 800 S. Roselle Road (between Irving Park and Higgins Roads), Schaumburg. Services will begin with prayers at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the funeralre home, and proceed to St. Hubert's Catholic Church for Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
