I sure hope there’s someone out there who can help me with this one. I am researching my husband’s family. Joseph S. Gibbins and Caroline Seelye are my husband’s g-g-g grandparents. There are volumes on the Seelye (Seeley) family, but all end with the Seelye/Gibbins marriage. This is what I know, mostly based on the census years. Joseph S. Gibbins was born in 1809 in New Jersey. Both of his parents were born in New Jersey. Caroline Seelye was born in New York, as were both of her parents. Joseph & Caroline’s first child was born about 1836 in Michigan, so one can assume they married prior to 1836. They had seven children in all. 1840 Dryden>Lapeer>MI Joseph, 1 adult female, 3 children under age 5 1850 Coolspring>LaPorte>IN Joseph, Caroline, 5 children & father in law 1860 Cass>LaPorte>IN Joseph, Caroline, 4 children 1870 Cass>LaPorte>IN Joseph, Caroline, 4 children The 1880 Census is interesting, as Joseph lists himself as Married, Caroline, as Divorced. 1880 Valley>Polk>NE Joseph, 1 son 1880 Hanna>LaPorte>IN Caroline, 2 sons The 1900 & 1910 Census indicate Joseph’s son remaining in Nebraska, so it appears Joseph died between 1880 & 1900 in Nebraska. Also, for the 1900 Census, Caroline lists herself as widowed. She died 1/26/1902 in Hanna, Indiana; her tombstone reads ‘wife of J.S.’ Thanks for any help you can give me that links Joseph S. to his family. Notify Administrator about this message?
