I am posting this in case anyone else is researching their ancestors in York Co., VA.
While at the York Co. Courhouse, researching my ancestor, Capt. John Ballard of Yorktown, VA. I ran across this will of John Gibbins 1726/27. It is in the "Orders & Will, etc. book #16 ----1720-1729
There is a partial index in the front of the book, but, I did not find John Gibbins there, I had to just start at the front of the book and start reading through until I came across it.
There seem to be differing opinions concerning the last name of Capt. Ballard's wife Elizabeth. In most of the internet references that I have seen, she is referred to as Elizabeth Bland (daughter of a Rev. Bland). I believe that the Gibbins will tells us definitely the name of Capt. John's, wife. Elizabeth Gibbins. In John Gibbins will he names his son John Ballard & wife Elizabeth Ballard (his daughter).
I had seen Capt. John Ballard's will transcribed on the net and it mentioned he left something to a "Miss Jary Gibbins". When I read the original Capt. John Ballard's will, it appears to me not to read "Miss Jary Gibbins", but, "Miss Sary Gibbins". This original document's other capital letter "J" looks quite different, but the first letter of the name Sary is quite consistent with the rest of the document. That being said, if you look at John Gibbins will, he had a daughter Sarah, it is also my opinion that her nickname could well have been "Sary". I have seen this treatment of Sarah in other peoples documents. To me, all of this seems to be conclusive proof that Capt. John Ballard's wife's name was Elizabeth Gibbins.
My transcription of the John Gibbins will is as follows (if you find mistakes, please let me know! I will leave blanks when not sure of word):
In the name of God Amen I John Gibbins of York Town in York County being sick and weak, but of perfect sense & memory do make my last will & testament in manner following imprimis. I leave my Soul to God that gave it me and my body to the earth from whence it came to be decently buried by my executors hereafter named.
Item, I give and bequesth to my son John my two lots in York Town which I bought of Parson Andrews numbered (64 & 65) to him and his heirs for ever but if my son John should die without heirs then my will is that my two lots abovementioned should be sold and the produce equally divided between these my thre children, Lawrence, Thomas & Sarah.
Item, I give and bequeath to my son John my tract or parcel of land laying in Yorkhampton Parish in the County of York to him & heirs forever and I give to my son John my watch.
Item, I give and bequeath to my son Lawrence my lot in York Town number (71) where my Ordinary now stands to him & his heirs for ever and I give to my son Lawrence my _____ _____.
Item, I give and bequeath to my son Thomas my lot in York Town which I bought of Stephen Fuller facing the lot which I have given to my son John Ballard to him & his heirs for ever.
Item, I give and bequeath my son John Ballard & my daughter Elizebeth Ballard my lot in York Town which I escheated from the Gibsons to them & their heirs forever.
Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Gibbins my lot in York Town joining to the Ordinary lot known by the number (67) to her & her heirs for ever.
Item, I give and bequeath to my loving wife the bed we usually lye upon with all its furniture & one trunk which was her mother's, my black horse & furniture.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my son John that bed & furniture which is in the house that Doct. Armor now lives in.
Item, I give to my daughter Mary Baptist one bed, one rug, one pair of blanketts and one pair of holland sheets.
Item, I desire that the rest of my beds with the furniture belonging to them, be sold, my grandson John Harvey to have six pounds of it, of the produce there, of the remainder to be equally divided between my heirs, three children Lawrence, Thomas & Sarah.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my loving wife half a doz. chairs (viz) three leather chairs, & three rush chairs one tea table & three cows. My will and desire is that all the rest of my Estate both real and personal of what kind soever be sold the payment of my debts to be made and the remainder if any to be given as follows to my daughters Mary Baptist & Elizabeth Ballard & Sarah Gibbins, each of them one gold ring of fiveteen shillings price and likewise to Sarah Nelson, Mary Phillips, Rebecca Phillips each of them one gold ring of fiveteen shillings price if any then remains, I desire it may divided equally between my wife & children (Viz.) John Gibbins, Lawrence, Thomas & Sarah. Lastly I _____ ____ & appoint my loving wife Anne Gibbins and my son John Gibbins my whole and sole Exectrs. of this my last will and testement. Revoking all wills heretofore by me made in Witness whereof I have sat my hand & seal this nineth day of March in the year of our Lord 1726.

At a Court held for York County May 15, 1727
John Buckner Gent came into Court & ___ a copy of the last will & testement of John Gibbins desed. and made oath that the same is a true copy of the original will of Gibbins and that the said Buckner wrote both the copy and the original, also William Nelson & James M ___ made oath that they were witnesses to John Gibbins signing, sealing, publishing & declaring his last will & testement & that they heard the same read and verily believes the paper now produced by Mr. Buckner to be true & perfect copy of Gibbins will and that the legacy and bequeaths in this paper are the same as were contained in the will signed, sealed, published & delivered & ____ by the said John Gibbons desced. and to which said original will they set their hands as witnesses thereto which said copy of Gibbins will by the Court admitted to record
