My great-great grandfather was William J. Gibbens of Davidson County, N.C., (July 22,1819-May 14,1899), married Hannah Mendenhall. I am not aware of any Nova Scotia connection and would love to get more information on that. However, I have a lot more info on William, including a letter he wrote to his son in 1890 or so, describing his life in N.C., and some sketchy recollections on his civil war experiences and his wife.
