WALTER I. GEYER August 1, 1925 - February 10, 2006 Walt Geyer passed away on Friday, February 10, 2006 at his home of 44 years in San Mateo, CA with his loving wife Dee at his side. Walt and Dee were to celbrate their 56th wedding anniversary and her 83rd birthday the next day. Walt was the first of 3 born to Charles and Mary Geyer in Boonville , Indiana on August 1, 1925. He graduated from Boonville HS where he enjoyed football and track but couldn't wait to join the US Army Air Corps in 1943. His service was highlighted by his unifromed attendance at the funeral of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Washington DC, April, 1945. He was stationed at Wiesbaden Air Base in Germany during the post war period until his honorable discharge in late 1948. Walt married Deloris (Wire) on her 27th birthday, Feb 11,1950 and made their way to the SF Bay Area where they raised 3 children, Karen (Baumann), and twin boys Mark and Scott Geyer. He provided for his family in large part with his physical labor , first as a mechanic and later as a loyal memeber of the Operating Engineers Local Union #3 where he became an accomplished heavy equipment operator. Walt spent many of his hard working years seated at the controls of a huge bulldozer or many of the monsterous rigs that help build and repair miles of roads and highways in Northern California. Walt is preceeded in death by his parents and 3 of his 9 grandchildren: Daniel Baumann (2 days old), Christopher Baumann (age 16) and Jessie Marie Geyer (age 7). He is survived by his wife, 3 adult children, sister Ruth Powell of Evansville, IN and brother Norman Geyer of Carbondale, IL and 6 grandchildren: Matthew Baumann, Adam, Travis, Jordan and Jamison Geyer, and Hailee Whittington. Walt had many hobbies but was happiest when woking with his hands while woodworking, fishing or simply teaching a Boy Scout to tie a knot. Walt was a member of Masonic Lodge #226 of San Mateo and also served many years in Boy Scout leadership. Friends are invited to attend memorial services at 11 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 15, Sneider & Sullivan Funeral Home, 977 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA 94402 (650) 343-1804. Private burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association, or a preferred charity.
