Hello, My name is Jennifer White. I live in Washington State. My mother Betty Jane Hall's grandfather was William Estes Gerrish Son of Henry A Gerrish (son I believe of Captain Samuel Gerrish.)Genealogy is so confusing. We have all kinds of documents, wills etc....Apparently a Capt E.A. gerrish was one of the last old time sea captians to sail from Portsmouth NH. He commanded the ship Rockingham according to this old news clipping in front of me.
Also there was a big trial involving my great grandfather and the estate of My great Aunt Abigal K McCallister who died in camden on Feb. 17, 1895. I have those court documents, as my great grandfather was baptised "Green" and not Gerrish as Henry married my great great grandmother under a false name "Green" even though he was a Gerrish. He went to sea and never returned to her and she devorced him after several years and Married Mr Anderson. My great grandfather took his name until one day Henry returned to tell his son he would inherit money and estates. They went to court and changed his name to William Estes Gerrish, son of Henry Gerrish. Why he married my very Irish grandmother in a Catholic Church under an alias name we will never know unless I get the complete court documents. We just have the court documents for the name change and his baptism and his parents marriage and divorce. Unfortunately the Church he was baptised in burned to the ground in the San Francisco fire. We have many letters and correspondance from Dover. I would love to see Dover someday. I have much more.... Is this at all related to you. Jenny
