WELLS, Maine - Irene C. Wormwood, 95, of Bragdon Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at the Newton Rehabilitation Center in Sanford. She was the widow of Gordon E. Wormwood, who died in 1992. She was born on Dec. 19, 1909, in Marlinton, W.Va., a daughter of Jonathan William and Blanche (Curtis) Gerow. She was the oldest living graduate of Wells High School, having graduated in the Class of 1926. She then graduated from Burdett College in Boston, Mass. She worked for Ground Gripper Shoe Co. until she moved to Pennsylvania. She then returned to Maine, where she worked as a secretary and billing clerk for Kesslen Shoe Co. in Kennebunk. She loved gardening, especially her rose gardens. She enjoyed nature and loved spending time with her family. She is survived by a son, Curtis Wormwood and his wife, Viola, a grandson, Walter Wormwood and his wife, Sherri-Ann, a granddaughter, Susan Forsley, a great-granddaughter, Katy Wormwood, and two great-grandsons, Curtis Forsley and Andrew Wormwood, all of Wells; and two nieces, Rosella Morrow and her husband, Elwyn, also of Wells, and Camille Salls of Florida. An hour of visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick, Maine. The Rev. Robert G. Cole Sr. of the Bethel Christian Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Wormwood family cemetery in Wells, Maine, in the spring.
