Hello Robert,

Many thanks for your response. At least I now know I am looking for Parish rather than civil records.

As to the Schedlich family's religious denomination all I know is that they were protestant. The only clues I have as to which denomination Carl Gustav Schedlich belonged to are from his memoirs written not long before he died in 1901. Apparently one of his greatest pleasures on a Sunday in Dresden was to go to his Church to hear Dr. Christoph Friedrich von Ammon and Oberhofsprediger Dr. Johann Ernst Rudolph Kaufer preach.

In another part of his memoirs Carl Gustav mentions an Oberhofsprediger Keufert who confirmed him and celebrated the marriage of his sister. He refers to him as "Pastor" and from this I assume he may have been Lutheran.

So Robert I guess this all boils down to how many different protestant denominations there were in Dresden between 1821 and 1835 and whether there are any surviving church records.
Thanks again for your help - Trish
